Yim Jae-beom might pull out of the popular TV program “I Am a Singer” due to health reasons, a local entertainment news source reported Monday.
Yim is expected to express his intention to quit at the pre-recording session of the program scheduled for later Monday and say goodbye to the TV audiences and his fans, according to the report. He may take part in the TV recording, but would not sing on stage.
Yim is still recovering from appendectomy last Monday, and therefore may not be able to sing for a while, but a member of the reality show’s staff did not rule out the possibility that the renowned singer might return to the program if he wants to do so.
Yim, a rock singer known for his distinctive voice and stage style, saw his public profile soar after he joined the program, where he presented a series of stunning performances.
Yim plans to perform solo June 25-26 in Seoul and will go on tour nationwide afterwards. Driven by the show’s publicity, all the songs he sang on the program have been reaching high ranks on major music charts. His latest piece for the new SBS drama “City Hunter” has also become an instant hit.

가수 임재범이 MBC '우리들의 일밤 - 나는 가수다'에서 하차할 것으로 보인다.
임재범의 소속사 관계자는 23일 "일시 하차가 되든 영구 하차가 되든 일단 하차 수순을 밟고 있다"며 "일단 오늘 경연에서 빠지면 최소한 3주간 참석이 어려운 상황 이기 때문에 하차가 불가피한 상태"라고 말했다.
임재범은 지난 16일 강남 세브란스 병원에서 맹장 수술을 받고 18일 퇴원했다.
그러나 노래를 부르기는 어려워 이날 진행되는 첫번째 경연에는 참석하지 않기로 했다.
이 관계자는 "본인은 회복을 위해 최선을 다하고 있지만 '나는 가수다'의 시스템상 오늘 경연에 참석하지 못하는 것 자체가 제작진에 피해를 줄 수 있다"며 "일시 하차 후 복귀 여부도 불투명한 상태다. 오늘 녹화장에 가서 제작진과 향후 계획을 의논해 볼 것"이라고 말했다.
임재범은 최근 '나는 가수다'에 출연해 폭발적인 가창력과 카리스마 넘치는 무대 매너로 큰 인기를 모았다.
지난 22일 방송된 두번째 경연에서는 윤복희의 '여러분'을 호소력 있는 목소리로 소화, 압도적인 득표율로 1위에 올랐다.
